Dr. Joyce-Zoe Farley will share the history of Juneteenth from the Emancipation Proclamation to the efforts to get it declared a national holiday, to Governor Ivey's recognition of Juneteenth as Freedom Day in Alabama. In 2021, Juneteenth became the first federal holiday approved since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.
Dr. Farley is the Visiting Assistant Professor of Public History and African American Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Free. All welcome. Registration is requested. Call Irondale Library 205.951.1415 or register below. |
