Many public libraries throughout Jefferson County to be closed Thursday, Dec. 15

All Birmingham, several public libraries throughout Jefferson County to be closed on Thursday, Dec. 15 The Birmingham Public Library System (BPL) will be closing all of its 19 locations on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, for annual Inventory Day.  Several libraries throughout Jefferson County will also be closed for software upgrades.  This upgrade also impacts other libraries in the county that are open on Dec. 15, so please call before visiting a library for services. This upgrade work will require existing systems to be taken offline, and as a result, most library-provided services will be unavailable for the duration of the work day. Impacted services include: library catalogs, public PC use, and access to databases and products such as OverDrive, Hoopla and Zinio. A number of the public libraries in Jefferson County have decided to leverage this opportunity as an inventory and staff development work day. Normal library hours in Birmingham and Jefferson County will resume on Friday, Dec. 16.
