Public Libraries in Jefferson County, DBA Jefferson County Library Cooperative were named a top nonprofit organization during the Birmingham Business Journal's annual Nonprofit Awards luncheon. Public Libraries won in the category for organizations with annual revenues between $250,000 and $1 million. The organization, a cooperative of the 40 public libraries located in 22 communities countywide, was incorporated in 1985. In total all 658,000 residents of Jefferson County benefit from the services offered by Public Libraries in Jefferson County. These include providing access to nearly 2 million items including downloadable audiobooks and eBooks, interlibrary loan delivery service, internet availability at all 40 library locations, research databases, print and online resource materials, access to the Alabama Virtual Library as well as to Homework Alabama (online tutoring).
