“Library Makeover” Project

July 28, 2015

The Hoover Library is beginning a “Library Makeover” project Monday, August 3. Only limited library services will be available from August 3 through September 2. The library will be closed Thursday, September 3 through Monday, September 7.

During this project, patrons will be able to check out some materials, return materials, request materials, ask reference questions, use a limited number of public computers, visit the café and bookstore and attend scheduled programs. Many of the library’s books and other materials will not be available for checkout due to the painting and carpeting work taking place in the library.

The library is encouraging patrons to keep Hoover Library items that normally check out for three weeks - books, audiobooks, music CDs, CD rom games, puppets and nonfiction DVDs until September 8. Popular movies, video games, Playaway Views, preloaded nooks and mobile hotspots, as well as materials from other Jefferson County libraries will still have their normal loan period.

The Friends of the Hoover Library will be unable to accept donated items from August 1 through September 15.

The Library Makeover project will bring an updated color scheme on the main level of the library, new carpet in several areas and contemporary unique computer and study carrels which will provide open and modern work and study spaces. We appreciate your patience during this time and look forward to a fresh new look in September.

Call 444-7800 for more information.

Having all the answers in one convenient place is pretty amazing

2100 Park Place
Birmingham, Alabama 35203

Dear Library Friend:

Thousands of people turn to the library every day seeking a book, employment information, access to the internet, and more. Our 40 public libraries offer programs and services that educate, inform, and entertain Jefferson County residents. Our local library collections (print and downloadable) continue to expand with new titles being added daily. However, if we did not have a countywide online catalog you could not find those titles nor request them from another library. Our catalog system provides access to 2 million titles. We also annually deliver 4 million items at your request to a library near you, and then return items back to the owning library. The directors and staff in all 40 libraries work hard every day to serve you, our users. Your support helps to make this possible.

Our total overall donation goal for this fiscal year is $70,000 and we are currently at $52,369. We need to raise $17,631 by September 30, 2015 - which is just two months away. We still need your help, please donate today. We are grateful to those of you who contributed to The Great Give in May. We exceeded our $15,000 Great Give goal and raised $18,087! If you are one of our loyal donors – Thank you. Please consider an additional donation. With cuts in our county and state funding, the library cooperative needs your help more than ever to continue the cooperative services that link all 40 public libraries together.

One patron summed up nicely what her local library means to her: “The library is more than just books. There’s a feeling of community there that you just don’t find at a bookstore. When I need information for health, business purposes, or financial resources, I head to the library and talk to a librarian, who always helps me find what I need. Having all the answers in one convenient place is pretty amazing.”

Your support means even more than you can imagine! If you are able to help at this time, please mail your check (payable to Jefferson County Library Cooperative, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham AL 35203), or contribute online at PublicLibrariesInJC.org . All donations are 100% tax deductible. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
